A national chain's ambitious expansion is set to bring a new twist to the iconic Tenby beachfront. But here's where it gets controversial...
The renowned hospitality company, Loungers, is eyeing a prime spot next to one of Wales' most beloved beaches. With a presence already established across Wales, including Cardiff, Swansea, and Newport, Loungers is now aiming to launch a new venue, the Lansio Lounge, right by the sandy shores of Tenby.
And this is the part most people miss: the proposed signage for the new lounge has sparked a debate. While Tenby Town Council supports the idea, the park's conservation officer, Rob Scourfield, is advising against it, citing concerns about preserving the character and appearance of the conservation area.
The Loungers submission, which includes plans for fresh fascia signage and a new totem sign, has been met with mixed reactions. Scourfield argues that internally illuminated signage goes against the rules set out in Section 160 of the Historic Environment (Wales) Act, which emphasizes the importance of maintaining the area's unique charm.
However, Loungers UK Limited has yet to comment on the proposals and their plans for the Tenby venue. The application will be further examined, leaving the fate of this potential new addition to the beachfront uncertain.
So, what do you think? Should the conservation area's appearance take precedence over business expansion? Or is this an opportunity to bring a fresh, family-oriented experience to Tenby's beachgoers? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
